Tenure-Track Position in Forensic Science / Digital Data Imaging & Processing

The Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics atUniversité du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) welcomes applications from qualified individuals for a tenure-track position in Forensic Science / Digital Data Imaging & Processing, subject to approval by the relevant authorities.
Starting date: June 1, 2020,or as agreed upon with the University.
Requirements:
Hold a doctorate (PhD) in Forensic Science, Criminology, Criminal Sciences, Computer Science with applications in Criminal Sciences, or a related discipline with a specialization in Digital Imaging, Digital Data Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Database Management (biometrics and pattern recognition, data mining and security intelligence).
Experience:
The selected candidate will work in the field of forensic science (trace science, mainly focusing on digital ones here). The candidate must be able to teach courses in Criminalistics/Forensic science, a high-demand area for the Department. In terms of research, the candidate must have an excellent publishing record in the field of Criminalistics/Forensic science, with in-depth knowledge of signal and image processing (e.g., crime scene reconstruction, new technologies), Artificial Intelligence (AI), forensic database management and operations to develop intelligence in forensic science, and cyber crime. The candidate must be able to develop an independent research program. In line with his/her interests in imaging, interpretation and AI, the candidate will be able to work collaboratively with colleagues in the departments of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics, and Mathematics and Computer Science, and the International Centre for Comparative Criminology. Initially, the new professor will be expected not to engage too heavily in service to the community, as his/her efforts must be focused on developing a robust, well-financed research program.
Other:
Our Department is responsible for introducing graduate studies in Forensic Science (M.Sc. and doctorate), while developing and consolidating undergraduate courses currently offered, under four majors within one Bachelor of Forensic Science degree. As a result, the candidate will be able to mentor students and develop research as part of these new programs, while enhancing undergraduate programming in Forensic Science. Due to his/her involvement in developing programs at all levels in Criminalistics at UQTR, the candidate will be able to mentor students doing the combined bachelor’s degree in Physics and Computer Science, the master’s degrees in Physics (with thesis) and in Energy and Materials Science, or even the Master of Applied Mathematics and Computing. This last possibility falls under the emerging collaborative work currently underway between the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and its Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire de Recherche en Imagerie et en Combinatoire (LIRIC) as well as the program in Criminalistics and its forensic research unit, the Laboratoire de recherche en criminalistique (LRC). In addition, the Department will expect the new faculty member to develop a transdisciplinary course in AI, with a critical lens on its applications in Forensic Science.
Notes:
  • Knowledge of French is required for this position.
  • Two letters of reference should be sent directly by the referees to the following address: srh.affairesprofessorales@uqtr.ca.
Duties:
The chosen candidate will be engaged in teaching, research, and service to the community, and will provide pedagogical guidance.
